24 Days of Emerging Designers: Angélique Chmielewski

Angelique Chmielewski

Angélique Chmielewski may have just revved up your appetite for coats. It’s one of her signatures in addition to tops and bottoms which are just a few elements of her namesake label that’s surely standing out. This FIT grad made sure to immerse herself in everything while at school and when she began her label, took the time to do it thoughtfully. From studio hunting, getting her business in order and figuring out sourcing, she’s now three seasons in and continues to move forward with a clear direction.

For fall/winter, she’s designed striking outwear. The dreamy mohair wrap and waxed duffle coat not only looks good, but offers movement. The collection titled “We Belong” is about making connections and looked to uniforms such as tartans and crests translated in fabrics and silhouettes with luxurious wools: mohair, superfine suiting and melton along with crisp cottons. She also plans to introduce her popular varsity jacket for spring in a cupro and suedo combo which will be a fit for the season.

Her other focus is honing in on the details to help elevate her customer which she says are individuals that make clothes a reflection of their personality. To be clear, ones that have the disposition to wear a poppy double breasted coat or a hight waist twelve gore skirt paired with a plaid blazer. She says, “… I create collections aimed to provide pieces that allow somebody’s personality to shape beneath it.”

Moving forward to spring, she’s taking inspiration from fresh moments and times of realization. Watch out for color, flowing fabrics and draped pieces.
