New York-based emerging designer Sumanta Ghose, a Parsons grad and founder of Uurmi is changing the way women look at Indian eveningwear. Taking traditional silhouettes such as the sari, lengha and salwar kameez and modernizing the styles with colorful, bold prints is her way of making a splash. She’s also merging east and west through her scarf collection that shows the photos she’s taken while in India. City lights, the streets of Mumbai and found objects are just some of the subjects that have been beautifully translated on to her pieces to tell the story of her brand while exposing more people the Uurmi label.
