CitySource is back at FIT for another round of production and sourcing for emerging designers. The semi-annual trade show will take place on Thursday, July 21 from 10am-4pm. Complimentary seminars will be offered throughout the day.
11:00am: Working with Embroidery and Embellishments
Taught by Michelle Feinberg, New York Embroidery Studio
New York Embroidery Studio offers custom embroidery, embellishment, and textile manipulation treatments for many of New York’s top designers as well as brands of note from across the globe. Combining new and old technologies, the studio’s specialties span a large variety – offering anything from vintage novelty stitching to laser cutting and 3D printing. Michelle will share her expertise, offer an insider look at the processes behind the work, and answer any questions on what is happening in embroidery and embellishment today.
12pm: How to Efficiently Produce in NYC
Taught by Pauline Lock, In Style
In Style works with some of fashions biggest names producing high quality quick turn units in a large 100+ employee facility in the heart of the Garment Center. Pauline is the production manager and will review best practices for producing locally and will help answer any of your questions.
1:00pm: Introduction to 3D Printing, Shapeways

2:00pm: How to work with Production Agents
Taught by JR Morrissey;The Factory BKNY
Local production agents can help businesses focus on core competencies and take the burden out of producing in NYC. Their unique expertise gives them much more leverage when negotiating with factories and helps you hit the price points you need to be competitive. JR will give you an overview of how the process works and can help answer any of your questions.
3:00pm: Best Practices for Sampling and Small Lot Production
Taught by Joann Kim – Johnny’s Fashion
Johnny’s Fashion has been helping businesses with sampling and small lot production for two generations and have worked with everyone in the industry. Joann will discuss best practices for pattern and sample development and help answer your questions on how to get the most of these critical resources in NYC.
