Emerging Designer Spotlight: Claire Andrew

In three short years, Claire Andrew has accomplished quite a bit. Graduating with honors from the University of Wales, learning to knit pieces with volume and substance and plans to show at London Fashion Week this February are just a few accolades from this emerging designer. What’s also impressive is that this is Claire’s second career. This political science major turned account manager for some of the biggest beverage brands left her job to pursue fashion in 2007 when she noticed her creative strengths when she began making dresses while still working.

Designing with knits and sculpting with silks, chiffons and merino wools became her focus. “I enjoy creating pieces that are knitted as one piece that appear as if they could have been grown.” Her chunky tree branch-like sweaters from her Autumn/Winter 2011 collection are proof.  Inspiration from cloud formations and dragon fly wing structures give her pieces an organic feel, while unique elements like the cloud print skirt are truly one-of-a-kind because they were made from her very own photographs. Delicate, extravagantly feminine and luxurious, her pieces hit the mark.
