Chicago-based designer Lagi Nadeau describes her brand as fun, feminine and chic with Japanese prints as the inspiration for the season. For our summer Fridays feature we learned more about her and what she likes to do in the Windy City.
Where are your products made? Everything is made in the USA: in New York and Chicago.
What’s your favorite summer piece or color and why?
I have been loving my Waterfall Printed blouse from our spring/summer line because it is made with a custom print that reflects our inspiration of the season; the Japanese block print painting The Waterfall Seen from Kohara by Okiie Hashimoto. The fabric combination and hardware buttons makes this shirt feel special and I love to wear it with our Lady Disco pant and heels for a night out, or with shorts and sandals for a daytime look. I love how blogger and jewelry designer Jennifer Worman of Red Wine and Red Soles wore it with our Waterfall Printed Pant for a fun head to toe printed look.
What’s your favorite summer food?
I love the summer for picnics and barbecuing with friends.
What’s your favorite summer drink?
I live fairly close to Chinatown in Chicago and I have been addicted to bubble tea this summer. I walk to Joy Yee way more than I should. The banana pineapple, green tea or taro freeze with tapioca are my favorites!
What’s your favorite local spot?
I love to go to Zapatista, Tapas Valencia, and Cafe Bionda. They are close for me and I love the atmosphere and food at each of these places. Chicago has so many great restaurants and these are at the top of my list.
Where do you go to relax?
The Art Institute of Chicago museum is one of my favorite places, it always fills me up with inspiration. When I was little, visiting from Michigan with my dad, we would go to the museum and see a different area of the museum each time (always making sure to see the impressionist wing which is our favorite), and each time we would cross off the area on our museum map to eventually cover the entire museum because it is so large. I was very excited about a recent partnership that The Chicago Fashion Incubator had done with the Art Institute of Chicago, it was really special for me to be involved in such a great partnership.
What’s your summer inspiration?
I recently spent some time at my grandma’s up north in Michigan and everything about being there was inspiring to me, from hearing more about my grandma’s childhood, to enjoying walks along the Tahquamenon Falls. I love travelling any chance I can get, especially in the summer.
Favorite summer song?
I have been listening to A is for Alpine a lot this summer and love their song “Gasoline.”
I’ll be showing my spring 2014 collection very soon and am so excited about my new showroom space in New York at 209 W. 38th Street! We will be having a sample sale this coming Tuesday, July 30th and Wednesday July 31st in the space where I will be selling pieces from my spring/summer 2013 line.
