With a few jewelry design courses behind her, Yvette Cortez became addicted to the craft. Working in luxury retail and heavily influenced by her experience at Barneys Co-Op, she started Sal Miel. Think raw, fearless and androgyny in one with a mix of rings, bracelets and earrings that work stacked or alone. Carved out of wax and then cast in brass or silver, every piece has its own story; whether it’s at the intersection of nature and architecture or visits to the museum, like her Lloyd ring that took months to perfect after a visit to the Guggenheim. And, what she’s done right is create a set of adornments that compliment the woman who carries the right amount of edge.
