While pursuing a graduate degree in industrial design at Pratt, Vanessa Chew wanted to do something responsible with the excess waste from her projects. Her answer was the Roots collection, a jewelry story that shows her minimal and geometric aesthetic that’s both visually powerful, yet simple and grounded in wood.
Vanessa’s Bib Necklace, a natural standout is made by hand at her home studio by meticulously placing sanded and sealed circular cuts on a bed of wool fabric. And, while each shape is different, the overall composition shows that natural imperfections can create the most striking work.
