They often say that you can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl. Erin Murphy is one of those girls. Her label, Em Reservoir strikes a balance for those that teeter with the allure of the city’s bright lights, but still enjoys the pleasures of rustic living. In Erin’s words, she calls Em Reservoir “a brand for those that pot and pick their own strawberries before tossing them into a glass of champagne.”
As a former patternmaker who’s worked at Alexander Wang, Narciso Rodriguez and J Mendel, she describes her collection as one part tailored. You’ll see this through blazers and bottoms including a stretch denim cigarette and various colors of velvet wader pants that are relaxed enough to move in and are fresh alternatives to many everyday choices.
The other half takes a whimsical approach. For fall, she’s evolved her signature embroidered looks. The hydrangea floral dresses in a nude stretch tulle comes in pearl white and sapphire blue and are standouts, along with a wonderfully draped rose shoulder tourmaline green velvet gown.
True to her word, she infuses bits of nature into her pieces either through silhouettes or prints. The fisherman’s jacket is one example. With large pockets and an oversized hood in a durable denim, its a look for both land and sea. Her button up blouse uses a repeat of flies and there’s also a wood burning print used throughout to make her woman’s city adventures fuse with the countryside, allowing her to get the best of both worlds.
