Emerging Designer Spotlight: Johna Stone

Johna Stone
Johna Stone describes his namesake label as authentic, chic and quirky. With oversized and effortless silhouettes, an electric orange story paired with a few solid colors, stripes and vinyl and vegan bottoms for the season, we’d have to agree. His debut fall 2017 collection is built on minimalism, a spark of fun and carefree sophistication.

After graduating from Parsons with a BFA in fashion design with a focus on womenswear he launched his New York-based line. He was inspired by working women during WWII. After researching uniforms, she was attracted to the pattern and shapes that were used to efficiently make clothes and used the least amount of fabric. Johna based his designs off of these principles and paired it with graphic elements. This manifested into cleverly constructed garments with a few standout pieces including an orange vinyl dress with an asymmetric patch pocket, a jacket with mutton sleeves that have just the right amount of pomp and a little black striped dress because what’s a strong collection without one?
