Johnny’s Fashion Studio, a sample and production apparel factory with over 30 years in the business is going online with a new class that will teach emerging designers the garment production process on Skillshare.
This New York-based business located in the Garment Center is keen on helping young talent. Joann Kim, Director of Sales and Marketing told us, “we are strong advocates of the local manufacturing movement currently rippling through the fashion industry, not only for the obvious benefits to our business, but to realize the opportunity to grow and support a community of manufacturers who can provide education and awareness to both designers and consumers.”
Their online video class is accessible at $15 and will provide students with the basics of development including how a garment goes from sketch to delivery. The curriculum includes:
- How factories work with the following: digital patternmaking, muslin fitting and sample making, fabric & trim sourcing, and production forecasting, pricing, and scheduling
- Production costs, manufacturing methods, and business to business communication with factories
- Projects for each video session will give designers the opportunity to create mock templates for sample cut tickets and production forecasts and scheduling a mock fitting with a garment from their closet
