Unraveling the Master Tailor: Men of the Cloth Screening

Is the art of tailoring a dead craft? Vicki Vasilopoulos, director of Men of the Cloth realized the scarcity of the master tailor and wanted to uncover their world before it became too late.

The documentary follows three Italian master tailors who face the decline of the apprentice system as they enter the latter part of their career. The film highlights their artistry and shows the devotion to the Old World craft that arose during the Renaissance period.

The philosophy of an artisan-tailor is rooted in a “pre-capitalist” ethos, and so he naturally identifies with the clothing that he creates.

The film will be screened in New York on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 and a Q&A with Vasilopoulos, tailor Joe Genuardi of Martin Greenfield Clothiers and New York master tailor Nino Corvato will follow.
