Adding someone to your network on LinkedIn is easy. In fact, it’s so easy that all you have to do is click the connect button. If you don’t know the person, don’t have a complete profile or dare we say a bad headshot or their generic default avatar, the person viewing your request, may not want to accept. Plus, there are those people that try to connect with everyone just to build their database. That’s why, one simple step that everyone should do is write a short introduction.
Providing some context or a frame of reference always helps establish a new relationship and may even get a conversation going. Perhaps you have a mutual connection, think you can do business together or attended the same college. These are all reasons to connect. So, instead of taking the one-step approach, write a short, but concise note because it will only take a few minutes and may just help make your new relationship stronger.
