Design Entrepreneurs FIT, the mini-MBA program developed by the Fashion Institute of Technology for emerging designers has announced an open call for their 2018 class. They are looking for brands in and outside of New York that have gained sales, press and industry traction and want to take their business to the next level. The program, now in its sixth year gives 25 fashion companies the tools, education and resources they need to grow.
The tailored curriculum includes three weekend intensives on branding and marketing, operations and financials. Businesses are also assigned to a mentor, can take select classes at Fashion Institute of Technology and have the opportunity to learn and build their network with participating brands.
All designers are required to complete a business plan and the top 12 advance to the pitch night. On this day, two will be selected to win $100,000 and $50,000.
Over the years, the program has graduated over 100 emerging designer labels that have since made a splash in the fashion industry. Alumni include: Chromat, Haus Alkire, Novis, David Hart, Flagpole Swim, Wwake, WXYZ Jewelry, Eckhaus Latta, Cadet, Vanessa Liane Jewelry, Rochambeau, Abasi Rosborough, Post Imperial, Corridor, Upstate, Collina Strada, Shahla Karimi, Haerfest, Yestadt Millinery, A-Morrir, Mimi Plange, Thaddeus O’Neil, William Okpo, ISLYNYC, Leota and many others.
Application Criteria and Process
- The program is open to designers globally as long as they can commit weekend intensives and any other required days
- Design categories include but are not limited to women’s wear, menswear, children’s wear, accessories and jewelry
- Business should have been in business at least one year
- Companies should have sales and press
