In a continued effort to make the world know that New York City is the fashion capital, the City of New York announced their $5 million dollar Made in NY fashion campaign that celebrates local designers that produce locally to kick off New York Fashion Week.
The campaign features nine brands that have been inspired, founded and based in New York including Public School, Chromat, A-Morir, Rosie Assoulin, Prabal Gurung, Alexis Bittar, Eugina Kim, Ohne Titel and Tim Coppens. The creative can be seen throughout the city on billboards, taxis and buses from Manhattan all the way to Staten Island.
At a press conference at Moynihan Station, one of the new venues to host New York Fashion Week, Andrew Rosen, CEO of Theory and proponent of local design talent and manufacturing programs such as the Fashion Manufacturing Initiative (FMI) expressed his continued support and the value of keeping New York the fashion capital.
Milliner, Eugenia Kim spoke about how she got her start in the late 90s and the importance of local factories and fostering community which has allowed her brand to thrive.
Deputy Mayor for Housing and Economic Development Alicia Glen told the audience that the campaign is just the beginning of the what the city has planned. The first effort began in February with their collaboration with MADE and announcement of $15 million in funds given to the industry by Mayor Bell de Blasio. Current and future support includes the recently launched capsule collection at Barney’s in collaboration with the CFDA, Made in New York certification, pop-up shop and Made in New York Fashion Awards along with continued investment in schools such as the $50 million in funds given to FIT.
The campaign crew included photographer Zev Starr-Zambor, stylist Sarah Gore Reeves, makeup artist Angie Parker, and hair stylist Thomas Dunkin, and featured models Kelly Rohrbach, Ajak Deng, Cristina Piccone, Shivani Persad, Diego Villareal, and Zhengyang Zhang.
