Emerging Designer Spotlight: Candice Sonneman

Jackets, blazers and vests. Those are the pieces that make up Candice Sonneman's capsule. Made out of a need to find a jacket that fit her in all the right places, she embarked on her own line with business partner Daisy Guo. Certainly not a novice, Candice worked for couture and contemporary designers while also making custom pieces for private clients before focusing on her line. She told us that she began sewing in 3rd grade and designing was a life long vision; most likely channeled through her aesthetically savant parents that helped her understand the beauty of the trade at an early age.

For fall, the collection takes a twist on the basics with well-tailored pieces driven by sharp lines that sprinkle in masculine silhouettes softened by her own "street-worthy rocker" accents. Playing in shades of black, white and grey, you'll see trimmed lapels, jackets with pronounced shoulders and over-sized collars like the Moto cracked lambskin jacket that has a nice sharp cut. She uses lush Italian leathers on her marbled vest and the sleek, form-fitting Trish blazer will upheave the stature of her confident, stylish metropolitan woman. What's also smart about the collection? All pieces have unexpected features like removable sleeves, a hidden a hood or on-seam pockets that take the line from day-to-night and support her functional, yet sophisticated edgy appeal. The line is also made in New York City's garment district; something we admire and respect.
