Emerging Designer Spotlight: Alchemy Detroit

Shelley Van Riper likes her uniform. A timeless, quality uniform that is. With a long-time career in corporate America, she had plenty of time to understand the styles that elevated her look and saw the opportunity to create investment pieces. In pursuit of finding garments that would not only last year after year, but also simplify her life, she started Alchemy Detroit.

In all reality, Alchemy was born in Detroit many moons ago in my mind but has come to life as a menswear-inspired collection crafted from deceptively simple sophistication, flawless construction and a keen sense of classic lines. Taking sartorial cues from menswear, our approach embodies Detroit’s proud legacy for American craftsmanship and industrious ingenuity.

Intrigued with the intricacies of bespoke men's tailoring, blazers were the inspiration and now the core of the brand. And, with a less is more state of mind, she's created a strong edit of staple silhouettes including tees and scarves that harmoniously work together for layering, dressing for work or casual times that seem to effortlessly compliment and enhance.

The beauty is in the details with thoughtful construction and luscious fabrics. The fitted Sophia blazer hits below the waist and his made from cashmere and virgin wool while the Madelon Schoolboy is cut from a Prince of Wales check complete with leather elbow patches that is another wardrobe essential. There's also tees cut in tried-and-true styles that are made from a silky cashmere jersey that helps make this uniform smart and irresistibly comfortable.
