Emerging Designer Spotlight: Elena Bobysheva
Once Elena Bobysheva knew the direction she wanted to take her namesake Chicago-based label, she immersed herself in geometry, architecture and the throws of patternmaking to help define the brand's aesthetic. A look at spring 15, you'll see that it's made up of a harmonious frenzy of pleats, dynamic cuts and silhouettes that are clean, sharp and standout with a double play of punchy colors. Neon and red to be exact. To get to this point, she made smart moves while in school and has already racked up several accolades. Elena attended Columbia College in Chicago focusing on fashion business management. After studying abroad in Florence, she decided to pursue fashion design as a second major. That's when she began to learn the craft and started participating in both design and business competitions and used the winnings to pay for tuition and her label. In 2013, she also received the Council of Fashion Designers of America's Approved Certificate which honors design talent.
Now, the latest collection lives on her first e-commerce platform. Highlights include a long blazer with deep shawl collar perfect for layering with an asymmetrical hem. She also has dresses covered with a range of options including a wool gaberdine mini sleeveless dress with a lace crochet insert and a semi-fitted shift in a stretch crepe with sheer silk organza panels paired with a sequin bodice available in both black and white. There's also the neon stretch wool mini dress with undersleeves and a hand-pleated under skirt which shows her talent for well-balanced composition.
