Emerging Designer Spotlight: KOTOBA
They are quartet of talented designers that have a fond appreciation for knits. Melinda Danko, Lindsay Mann, Alex Sarabia and Akira Tsuno are the team behind KOTOBA, an emerging designer label that describes the brand as innovative, progressive and versatile.
Combining their knowledge and experience from years in the industry, education at FIT and expertise in production, they are on a mission to design clothes that are socially and environmentally responsible. KOTOBA focuses on WholeGarment technology, a process that knits the body and sleeves at once to create a garment in one piece free of seams. From an efficiency standpoint, there is less wastage and for their women, she is free to move with comfort. Keen on local production, they believe that this advantage allows for quality control while supporting the art of craftsmanship and job creation to help rebuild the economy.
For spring, you'll see pieces inspired by leisure activities and moments of nostalgia. Perfectly snug dresses come in solids, stripes, zigzags and other techniques for a burst of texture, and with several sheer looks, it's just the right balance for the season. You'll also see tops with the popular high-low cut and cropped styles for carefree wear. Vibrant, with a focused personality, this conscious label is on to something special.
