Emerging Designer Spotlight: Vingt Quatre

The modern customer. Their astute, dynamic and seeking mobility in life. Thoughtful purchases and quality consumption reflects this new lifestyle. A wardrobe becomes timeless, clothes are genderless and ease is a luxury.
Catering to this customer is Vingt Quatre, a New York-based label that recently debuted Series 1, a kit of elevated staples and seasonless pieces that can be transitioned throughout the day, hence the name which means 24 in French and is an ode to each individual's daily lifestyle.
Designer Sumaiyah Akhtar founded the label with her sisters who together have a background in finance and organizational psychology.  Sumaiyah, a graduate of Parsons The New School for Design, stepped into fashion after taking drawing and draping classes and saw the beauty of fabric manipulation and the potential with garments. After college, she worked for Theory, Helmut Lang, Alice & Olive and Elie Tahari before she went out on her own.
Series 1 is a build on her senior thesis collection which explores the duality of being and the identity of the multicultural individual which is a reflection of her life in New York where she studied and started her career and her travels back to Dubai where she was raised. She told us that both cities influenced her perceptions and blending of the two cultures afforded her a flexible, open intercultural approach.
The collection is inspired by parts of the morse code which is reflected in their stitches and design detailing.  You'll see clean silhouettes in a black, white and gray story, perfect for their customer. There's a crisp and comfortable, slouchy street pant which pairs well with their unisex bomber or asymmetrical hoodie. A standout is the the asymmetric jacket in a Toscana shearling contrasted with Italian lambskin and for their target, the urban nomad, the double faced wool coat looks like the most livable piece.
