Emerging Designer Spotlight: Rosie Olivia
Studying decorative arts at Nottingham Trent University and then focusing on millinery at Central St. Martins, she learned the fundamentals. Internships with the best like Stephen Jones, Philip Treacy and Victoria Grant, Rosie experienced the creative development and production processing while also gaining a better understanding of how client relationships work. Soon after, she decide to start her own brand and quickly developed her own signature: handmade lace fabric that she created herself by experimenting with a variety of materials. Now, using her own lace to mold into different shapes, sizes and trims, along with wired sculptures and decorative plumes, her namesake collection is turning heads.
Part of the fun for Rosie Olivia, who admits that she loves every minute of helping women embrace her quirky style of hats is the bespoke process. Hats are fitted to the face, colors and trims are selected and then the piece is marked with the Rosie Olivia label. Although an intense process as all pieces are hand sewn, making quality hats that vary from refined to simply decadent is all just part of the trade for this emerging hat designer.
