Women Entrepreneurs NYC Program Gives Support to Female-Owned Businesses
NYC recognizes that there's a bonafide Girl Boss on every block in every borough. And, with the right support, can not only fuel entrepreneurship, but also help generate consistent economic growth. WE NYC, a new program created by The New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS) and Citi has two goals in mind: increase income stability for women and families and strengthen the economic impact of women entrepreneurs to help foster and create jobs in New York City.
In a research study shared by SBS, women-owned businesses throughout the 5 boroughs employ over 190,000 people and generate approximately $50 billion in sales, leading the nation in female entrepreneurship. However, findings concluded that there is an entrepreneurship gender gap amongst men and women. Learnings also shed light on the fact that 1 in 4 females in the city are economically venerable and impoverished.
In effort to combat these alarming statistics, Women Entrepreneurs NYC will strive to support 5,000 female-owned businesses over the next three years by developing a variety of initiatives to help start, run and grow companies. The first-of-its-kind program also supports Mayor Bill de Blasio's commitment to addressing inequality and prospering the economic growth of the city.
